s a police officer, Ashley Walters likes to think she can handle anything on her own. Once she becomes the victim of a stalker, she realizes that isn’t true.
Thinking only of her loved ones and their safety, Ashley flees to Shipshewana, Indiana in search of solitude and safety. Hoping she blends in with the Mennonite/Amish community, she tries to tackle the case on her own. She is, after all, a trained professional! How hard can it be to figure out who the stalker is? Danger is getting too close to her family and friends, can Ashley solve the case in time?
Part of the Place of Refuge Series, Nowhere to Run is packed full of adventure from the very beginning. Thinking I would only read a chapter here or there, I had a difficult time putting this book down to get other things accomplished!
Wallace is a talented writer, vividly describing the details of the various crimes. Holding true to her style of writing, reading this book left me feeling as if I was part of Ashley’s inner circle, trying to help her solve the crime!
I loved the characters and how Wallace developed them, the background details that were shared, to shed light on their stories, was just enough information to make me feel like I was sitting down with a friend and listening to their story. From their ancient history in their high school days, to their hopes and dreams for the future, I felt as if I was walking through their life with them.
The different struggles Ashley went through, as a woman being stalked, and that of a police officer being stalked, showed the inner conflicts she was plagued with. The same could be said when it came to her fiancé…he had a hard time accepting the need to take care of her, with the reality of what her job was, and the fact that she was capable of caring for herself. He soon came to realize what caring for Ashley meant.
The crimes and details were very fast paced, they felt like the were happening in real time. I rarely felt like the story was dragging on, and did not feel the need to skip ahead to see what the outcome would be!
If there was one drawback to this book, it would be that it ended all too soon! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and cannot wait until the next one in the series is released. Fans of Dee Henderson, Colleen Coble, and Terri Blackstock will want to add this to their reading list!
